Calabria rolls out CalabriAmbiente app and expands ‘Acqua Azzurra’ coastal clean‑up

The Calabria regional government announced the launch of CalabriAmbiente, a new digital platform that lets citizens monitor environmental data, view a live map of the territory and submit real‑time reports on issues such as forest fires, marine pollution and air quality. The app was presented by President Roberto Occhiuto and Environment Assessor Antonio Montuoro as part of the “Tolleranza Zero tutto l’anno” programme, which aims to maintain permanent environmental surveillance through a network of forest rangers, fire units, port authorities, ARPA Calabria and dozens of volunteer organisations.

At the same time, Legambiente Calabria continued its “Acqua Azzurra – Fondali e spiagge da proteggere” project, funded by the EU’s 2021‑2027 FSE+ programme and the regional budget. On 11 July volunteers and divers will clean the seabed and beach at the Natura 2000 site of Catona (Reggio Calabria), following earlier actions in Stalettì and the Scolacium Oasi. The event is coordinated with local authorities, the Port Captaincy and environmental NGOs to raise awareness and remove marine litter.

Both initiatives are intended to improve coastal biodiversity, enhance public participation in environmental protection and strengthen Calabria’s capacity to respond quickly to ecological threats.
