Calabria seeks staffing and integration for new Pnrr health facilities

The Democratic Party (PD) in Calabria criticised the regional health authority over the rollout of new health structures financed by the Pnrr. They demanded that regional commissioner Roberto Occhiuto disclose how many facilities are operational, whether they face personnel shortages, and how the networks of hospital and territorial care will be reorganised.

PD representatives argued that the focus should shift from merely constructing the facilities to ensuring their integration with hospitals, home care and social‑health services, especially in remote, mountainous areas that still suffer the greatest inequalities in access to care. Senator Nicola Irto called for a revision of the National Health Fund distribution, saying the current criteria have long disadvantaged the South and prevent Calabria from recruiting the necessary medical staff. The party warned that without adequate staff, resources and coherent planning, the new buildings could become “useless”.
