Calabria launches mental health and neurodivergence initiatives
The Calabria Region has launched two major initiatives to improve mental health and support for neurodivergent individuals. Through the “Centri Aperti. Vite Libere.” program, the region is investing over 10.3 million euros to establish 20 multipurpose centers across various socio-sanitary districts. These centers aim to provide personalized, bio-psycho-social care for individuals aged 16 to 40, focusing on autism and neurodivergence to ensure equitable access to services even in inland areas.
Additionally, the region has introduced “Parliamone insieme,” a free psychological support service specifically for young people aged 18 to 30. The project employs 48 psychologists: 34 will work within local Community Houses to provide 450 hours of weekly assistance, while 14 will offer 24/7 support via telephone and WhatsApp. This service requires no medical prescription or appointment, aiming to reduce the stigma associated with seeking mental health help.
