Calabria tourism growth urged to prioritize workers' conditions
Union FILCAMS CGIL welcomes the positive trend in tourism for the Calabria region, noting that increased visitor numbers represent an opportunity for the territory. However, it warns that growth must be measured "also by the conditions of those who work" and not just by arrival statistics.
The union stresses that thousands of tourism employees still face precarious, seasonal contracts and insufficient wages. It calls for investment in training, professional qualification, a fight against irregular work, strict application of collective contracts and greater recognition of professional skills. Earlier proposals for a regional strategy that puts decent work at the centre of tourism development remain relevant and should be renewed.
