Calabria Vice‑President Filippo Mancuso advances coastal flood defenses and maritime demanial guidelines
In Calopezzati, regional councilor Luciana De Francesco and Vice‑president for Soil Protection Filippo Mancuso met at the Cittadella in Catanzaro to define a schedule for coastal erosion works. The plan calls for tender notices for breakwater barriers by February, with the aim of awarding contracts by mid‑next year and beginning construction to protect the shoreline from increasingly violent sea surges.
Mancuso also chaired a regional technical committee on maritime demanial on 14 July, attended by mayors and beach‑operator associations. Participants discussed the implementation of regional laws on beach concessions and positioned Calabria as a potential national reference point for the EU Bolkestein directive, promising uniform guidelines and transparent procedures for coastal resource management.
Separately, mayor Attilio Vuga of Cividale met with new regional Demanio director Alessio Casci to review the future use of the former courthouse, the Lanfranco barracks and related housing complexes. Discussions included handing over the courthouse to the Guardia di Finanza and temporarily repurposing an ex‑library wing for social projects.
