Calabria workers face job losses as contract deadlines approach
Approximately 600 precarious workers in Calabria, Italy, are facing employment uncertainty due to upcoming contract expirations in the education and culture sectors.
According to the Cisl union, 321 workers employed by the Ministry of Culture are at risk of losing their positions when their final extensions expire on November 24. These workers have reportedly met the legal requirements for stabilization under the Madia law, but current political processes have not secured permanent contracts.
In the education sector, the Cisl is calling on Calabrian parliamentarians to intervene in the stability law to prevent reductions in school staffing. The union estimates that over 300 of the 7,000 positions affected by national cuts are located in Calabria. Additionally, the union is seeking 5 million euros in structural funding to stabilize social inclusion trainees who were excluded from current hiring procedures.
