Calabria labor stabilization disputes

Overview

The Calabria region has taken steps toward resolving disputes involving Social Inclusion Trainees (TIS). Following negotiations between regional labor officials and unions including CGIL, CISL, and UIL, administrative processes were activated for 1,961 workers, with 1,678 already contracted by municipalities. To support the remaining trainees, the regional administration is seeking an 8 million euro amendment to the national Budget Law.

Despite these developments, new employment uncertainties have emerged. The CISL union reports that approximately 600 precarious workers face job losses due to approaching contract expirations. Specifically, 321 workers in the culture sector are at risk when extensions expire on November 24, despite reportedly meeting legal requirements for stabilization. In the education sector, the union is calling for parliamentary intervention to prevent staffing reductions and is requesting 5 million euros in structural funding to stabilize trainees excluded from current hiring procedures.
