Calabrian theater festivals highlight regional culture

The Calabria region is hosting significant theatrical events. In San Costantino Calabro, the 38th edition of the Rassegna teatrale concluded in Piazza Dante. The festival, which features companies from across Calabria performing in local vernacular, drew hundreds of spectators. The Cittanova-based company ‘La bottega del sorriso’ won the 2026 edition with their comedy ‘’Na mugghieri femminista’, also securing awards for best direction and best leading actor, Francesco Rizzo.

In Reggio Calabria, the ‘ReggioFest 2026: cultura diffusa’ festival, organized by Teatri Calabresi Associati, is scheduled from September 6 to 9. Curated by artistic director Domenico Pantano, the program includes a variety of performances at Piazza Sant’Ambrogio, such as a ‘Gran Galà dell’operetta’, Machiavelli’s ‘Mandragola’, and Molière’s ‘Il malato immaginario’.
