Calabria's Costa Viola and Costa degli Dei Showcase the Region's Coastal Splendor

The Costa Viola stretches 35 km along southern Calabria’s Tyrrhenian shore, linking the towns of Palmi, Bagnara Calabra, Scilla and Villa San Giovanni. Celebrated by writer Leonida Repaci and named after a description by Plato, the area is steeped in myth, notably the legends of Scilla and the whirlpool monster Cariddi.

Further north, the Costa degli Dei extends over 40 km in the province of Vibo Valentia, from Pizzo Calabro to Nicotera, and includes the striking granite promontory of Capo Vaticano. Its sheer cliffs, crystal‑clear coves and rich marine life attract snorkelers and divers, while local initiatives aim to protect biodiversity and reduce plastic waste. The coastline also promotes traditional Calabrian cuisine, featuring fresh seafood, Spilinga’s nduja and Tropea’s red onion.
