Calci weekly market to return to historic Piazza del Poggio

The weekly market in Calci will permanently return to its historic location in Piazza del Poggio, also known as ‘Piazza del Mercato’, starting Wednesday, October 7. This decision follows several experimental phases and public consultations involving citizens, local merchants, and street vendor associations. The move was also a campaign commitment made by the majority coalition.

While the market remains in the town center, shifting only about ten meters, the relocation will clear Via Roma and Piazza Cavallotti. This is intended to improve traffic flow and connectivity between key areas, particularly near essential services such as the pharmacy, municipal police, post office, and local schools. Mayor Valentina Ricotta stated that the more compact arrangement in Piazza del Poggio aims to make the market more functional and recognizable, benefiting both permanent businesses and street vendors.
