Calcutta High Court to hear TMC petition over frozen bank accounts

The Calcutta High Court is scheduled to hear a petition regarding the freezing of four bank accounts belonging to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) by the West Bengal Police. The freeze was ordered following an FIR related to cybercrime.

TMC lawyers have argued in their petition that there is no evidence of illegal transactions through these specific accounts. They are seeking permission to withdraw funds for essential party expenses, suggesting that such withdrawals be managed through a court-appointed special officer to ensure transparency.

This development follows a Supreme Court ruling on Tuesday, which upheld a Calcutta High Court decision to deny interim relief to the TMC in a separate challenge against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding frozen accounts. The Supreme Court noted that the High Court had issued a balanced order, acknowledging that the party maintains sufficient funds for daily operations.
