Caldera beach cleaning initiative targets environmental protection
Environmental organizations, students, and local communities conducted a beach cleaning campaign in Caldera, Chile. The initiative covered several areas, including Brava, Las Machas, Rocas Negras, and Bahía Cisne.
Organized by the Corporación de Turismo Sustentable Bahía de Caldera, the project received 5 million pesos to fund equipment and transportation. Participants identified significant amounts of waste, including glass bottles, beer cans, metal, wood, plastics, and cigarette butts.
Atacama Governor Miguel Vargas noted that productive activities can coexist with environmental protection to enhance natural heritage and tourism. Future efforts will continue to target coastal areas and promote regenerative tourism to encourage visitors to manage their own waste.
