Calgary advances Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement

The City of Calgary is making progress on the Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement project, with Stage A microtunnelling now complete. This stage involved 3.7 kilometres of work between the Shaganappi Pump Station and 73 Street NW, including the installation of a concrete carrier pipe and over two kilometres of new steel feeder main.

Stage B, involving open-cut excavation in Bowness, is approximately 40 per cent complete. While several blocks have already reopened to traffic, additional sections are expected to reopen next week.

Critical connection work is scheduled for mid-October, which will require a system shutdown to tie the new feeder main into the existing network. This shutdown may trigger Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and indoor conservation measures, depending on weather and demand. Additionally, the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant may undergo a temporary shutdown in mid-September to facilitate system improvements. The new pipe is expected to be fully commissioned by mid-November.
