Calgary police charge suspects in two recent shooting incidents

Calgary police announced that a man has been charged after a shooting at the Victoria Park/Stampede LRT station in downtown Calgary. Two men were wounded; one was initially in life‑threatening condition but later stabilized. The suspect faces two counts each of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent, plus several weapons‑related charges and will appear in court on Wednesday. Acting Staff Sgt. Corey Der said the incident "has no place in Calgary and has a lasting impact on the community."

In a separate incident in the Bridlewood neighbourhood, police charged a 36‑year‑old man, Danny Martin, following an officer‑involved shooting after a disturbance at a residence. Martin is accused of multiple assaults on a peace officer with a weapon and other weapons offenses. He was hospitalized in critical condition but is now stable, and is scheduled to appear in court on August 5. The officer’s use of force is being investigated by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
