Calgary water infrastructure receives $29M federal boost

The Canadian federal government has committed $29 million to the North Calgary Water Servicing project through the Build Communities Strong Fund. This contribution supports the first stage of a larger $533 million infrastructure initiative designed to enhance water reliability and availability for northern Calgary neighborhoods.

The first phase of the project, costing $123 million, involves constructing several kilometers of feeder main and upgrading facilities such as the Top Hill Reservoir, Big Hill East Reservoir, and Mountain View Pump Station. Once operational next year, this stage is expected to provide an additional 30 million liters of water from the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant.

In a related development, the City of Calgary announced the completion of Stage A microtunneling for the Bearspaw South Feeder Main Replacement Project. This stage involved approximately 3.7 km of tunneling beneath major infrastructure to install a concrete carrier pipe. The project is proceeding on schedule, with Stage B open-cut construction currently 40 percent complete. A planned shutdown of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main is expected in mid-October to facilitate system connections.
