Cali earthquake: Musician offers hugs to survivors in Colombia

Following a 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck Cali, Colombia, on August 10, local musician Andres Solomon has established a “hugs here” station to provide emotional support to residents. Located in the Capri neighborhood, Solomon offers free hugs and a listening ear to help community members cope with what he describes as a “collective trauma.”

The earthquake, noted as the strongest to hit Colombia this century, has resulted in at least 265 deaths. While rescue teams continue to clear rubble and search for survivors, Solomon’s initiative has become a symbol of solidarity amid the destruction. Lyda Arias, president of Colombia’s Evangelical Confederation, has called for both prayer and action to address the widespread suffering caused by the disaster.
