Colombia earthquake and disaster response

Overview

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck Colombia on August 10, 2026, marking the strongest seismic event to hit the country this century. The disaster has resulted in at least 265 deaths and caused widespread destruction.

In Cali, local musician Andres Solomon established a “hugs here” station in the Capri neighborhood to provide emotional support for what he described as “collective trauma.”

In the Risaralda department, singer Jhonny Rivera reported significant damage to his residence near Pereira and the Nuestra Señora del Perpetuo Socorro church in Arabia, which suffered a collapsed wall and a partially destroyed roof. Rivera has responded by opening his hotel to house medical personnel, rescuers, and displaced families, while also participating in charity concerts and delivering material aid.
