California and Nevada placed under red‑flag fire weather warnings

The National Weather Service issued red‑flag warnings for critical fire weather across large parts of the western United States. In Nevada, a red‑flag warning covers the Sierra Front fire‑weather zone, including Carson City and several surrounding counties, with winds of 15‑30 mph (gusts up to 45 mph) and humidity as low as 12‑20 percent. The advisory warns that the combination of gusty winds and dry fuels can cause fires to spread rapidly.

In Southern California, the warning spans San Bernardino, Kern, Inyo and Tulare counties, as well as Death Valley National Park and the Mojave Desert. Forecasters expect wind gusts of 35‑55 mph and humidity between 6 % and 15 %. The warning, in effect until 11 p.m. Saturday, urges residents to prepare evacuation plans, sign up for alerts, and avoid activities that could ignite a fire, including illegal fireworks.

Authorities in both states are pre‑positioning fire personnel and equipment, and advising the public to stay off lakes and postpone outdoor activities until conditions improve.
