California heat wave spurs air pollution alerts and beach water warnings

Triple‑digit temperatures sweeping California are worsening air quality in the San Joaquin Valley. Officials with the Air Pollution Control District warn that hot afternoons drive ozone formation and that farm activities that disturb dry soil can raise dust levels, posing health risks especially for people with pre‑existing conditions. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor exposure during peak heat and monitor local air‑quality reports.

In Los Angeles County, public‑health officials have issued beach‑water advisories after testing showed elevated bacterial levels at several sites, including Will Rogers State Beach, Paradise Cove in Malibu, Marina del Rey’s Mother’s Beach, and others. Swimmers, surfers and beachgoers are advised to avoid contact with the water until conditions improve, while a warning for Redondo Beach Pier has been lifted following a return to acceptable standards.
