California Highway Brush Fires Prompt Evacuations and Traffic Delays

A brush fire ignited near the 215 Freeway in Riverside, California, sending thick smoke across the corridor and prompting evacuation orders for scattered homes and businesses on Placentia Avenue, Tobacco Road and nearby streets. Fire crews from the county, the Pechanga Tribal Fire Department and other agencies battled flames moving through medium brush on a ridge between industrial and residential zones. Traffic on westbound Rider and Orange streets was slowed for much of the afternoon while officials shut down sections of the freeway for safety.

In a separate incident near Victorville, a vegetation fire broke out along Frontage Road adjacent to the southbound I‑15. The blaze, about two acres in size, was quickly contained within the burn scar of a prior fire near a cement plant in the Mojave River area. Crews remained for mop‑up operations to extinguish hot spots. No injuries were reported in either incident, and investigations into the causes of both fires continue.
