Overview

In early July 2026, Southern California experienced multiple brush fires. A blaze in Lucerne Valley, San Bernardino County, expanded to five acres and involved structures, with reports of ammunition discharging from a burning home. A separate fire, the Grande fire, ignited near Lake Piru on the Los Angeles–Ventura county border; it grew to roughly 30 acres despite steep terrain, prompting evacuation warnings and a heavy aerial response during a regional heat advisory.

Two weeks later, additional vegetation fires erupted. One ignited near the 215 Freeway in Riverside, sending thick smoke over the corridor and leading to evacuation orders for homes and businesses along Placentia Avenue and Tobacco Road, as well as traffic slowdowns. A second, smaller fire broke out along Frontage Road near Victorville; it was contained within a previous burn scar and caused no injuries.

In August, the Walnut Fire ignited on the hillside above Burbank near Wildwood Canyon Park and the DeBell Golf Club. The blaze burned approximately 20 acres, prompting evacuation orders for the Stough Canyon Nature Center and the DeBell Restaurant and Golf Course, while nearby businesses were instructed to shelter in place. A concert at the Starlight Bowl was canceled due to the response. While the cause remains unconfirmed, some reports suggested a potential connection to a vehicle crash near Harvard Road occurring just before the fire was reported.
