California legalizes balcony solar technology
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed legislation allowing residents to utilize balcony solar, also known as plug-in solar. This technology involves smaller, more affordable solar arrays that connect directly to a home’s electrical outlets, making solar energy accessible to renters and those without traditional rooftop access.
State Senator Scott Wiener, the author of the bill, noted that the legislation removes significant barriers to adoption by eliminating the requirement for residents to negotiate interconnection agreements with utility companies like PG&E. The move follows similar trends in states such as Utah and Maine, aiming to reduce grid stress and lower energy costs for residents.
