California reports stable cyclosporiasis numbers amid national surge

The California Department of Public Health confirmed that the state is not experiencing an increase in cyclosporiasis cases. From January through June 2026, California reported 41 provisional cases, down from 80 in the same period of 2025 and within the state's historical average of about 106 cases per year. Officials emphasized that most California cases are linked to international travel and that no local outbreaks have been identified.

Nationally, the CDC has warned of a growing outbreak, with roughly 7,000 cases under review and a record‑high number of confirmed infections in states such as Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Health authorities continue to advise the public to wash produce thoroughly, cook leafy greens when possible, and avoid contaminated water or food, especially for vulnerable groups.

California health officials are monitoring the situation closely and urge residents to follow safe food‑handling practices while remaining alert for any signs of domestically acquired infection.
