California wildfire liability negotiations see little input from Becerra

However, gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra has remained notably absent from the legislative discussions surrounding the deal. Sources close to the matter suggest Becerra has not signaled a preferred outcome, a situation described by Consumer Watchdog president Jamie Court as unusual given that Becerra would inherit the results of these negotiations.

Republican candidate Steve Hilton has expressed skepticism regarding the Democratic approach to the issue, suggesting that California’s climate initiatives are contributing to utility struggles. Hilton has stated his intention to redirect resources toward wildfire prevention if elected.
