Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 developers discuss new hardware support

During Gamescom, developers from Infinity Ward provided insights into the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Technical designer Jack Hoppus and production manager Beatriz González discussed the game's focus on realistic movement and maintaining the core identity of the Modern Warfare series, distinguishing it from the more arcade-style feel of the Black Ops franchise.

A significant shift for the franchise is the decision to move away from supporting older hardware, such as the PS4 and Xbox One, to focus on current-generation consoles. This allows for enhanced rendering, lighting, and dynamic weather effects. Additionally, the series is reportedly expanding to a Nintendo platform for the first time in over a decade, with development specifically addressing the handheld and docked capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2.
