Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 sees strong pre-orders despite beta criticism

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is generating significant commercial interest despite mixed feedback from its early beta phase. On Steam, pre-orders have reportedly reached nearly 400,000 copies, roughly double the pre-order volume of Black Ops 7 at the same stage. The game has also seen high concurrent player counts during testing, peaking at over 115,000 users on Steam.

However, the beta has faced criticism regarding gameplay mechanics, including map design, spawn logic, and time-to-kill (TTK) balance. Developers at Infinity Ward have responded by issuing patches to adjust weapon damage and improve player spawns. Technical issues, such as a rendering bug affecting Captain Price's appearance and concerns over AI-generated assets, have also surfaced in community discussions.

Technically, the upcoming release introduces improved movement systems and a shader preloading feature for PC players to reduce load times. The title is also notable for being the first in the series to launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, though reports suggest the Switch 2 version may utilize a ‘code-in-box’ retail format and face visual fidelity challenges compared to other platforms.
