Callao, Peru experiences magnitude 4.8 earthquake

The Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP) reported a magnitude 4.8 earthquake on June 6, 2026, with an epicenter located approximately 86 km west of Callao. The tremor occurred at a depth of 55 km and was recorded with an intensity of III in the Callao region.

In addition to the event in Callao, the IGP noted recent seismic movements in both the northern and southern regions of Peru. Authorities have advised the population to implement preventive measures and evacuation plans in anticipation of potentially more intense seismic activity.
