Callejero Fino remains in custody after judge denies release

Argentine rapper Simón Natanael Alvarenga, known professionally as Callejero Fino, will remain in custody after Judge Mariana Schemberger of the San Isidro Judicial Department denied requests for both ordinary and extraordinary release.

The detention follows a traffic stop conducted by the Tigre Operations Center (COT) at the intersection of Route 23 and Italia. During the stop, which was initiated due to tinted windows and license plate issues, officers discovered a .40 caliber pistol in the front left door compartment of Alvarenga’s Volkswagen Amarok. The weapon was reportedly loaded with twelve cartridges and had its serial number filed off.

Authorities are investigating the origin of the firearm, as Alvarenga’s defense has not provided documentation regarding its provenance. The judge cited risks of flight and the potential for the release to obstruct the investigation as primary reasons for maintaining the detention. Prosecutor Cosme Iribarren has until next Friday to decide whether to request preventive detention. Under Article 189 bis of the Penal Code, Alvarenga faces a potential prison sentence ranging from 3 years and 6 months to 8 years and 6 months.
