Callejero Fino granted house arrest in Argentina
Overview
After more than a month in custody, Argentine musician Simón Natanael Alvarenga, known as Callejero Fino, has been granted house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor.
The legal proceedings stem from his August 30 arrest in Villa La Ñata, Tigre, where authorities discovered a .40 caliber Glock pistol with a filed-off serial number and ammunition in a Volkswagen Amarok. While Prosecutor Cosme Iribarren had initially requested pretrial detention citing flight risk, the charge was subsequently modified to attenuated illegal possession of a war weapon.
Alvarenga’s defense continues to maintain that the firearm was carried for protection following threats from his former manager, Carlos Mauricio ‘Mauri’ Fernández. The judge granted the transition to house arrest after Alvarenga’s mother and partner committed to his care, and following a favorable socio-environmental report regarding his residence.
The court ruled that electronic monitoring and weekly police checks could mitigate flight risks.
Following 39 days of imprisonment, Alvarenga has returned to his home in Pilar to serve the sentence. As part of his judicial conditions, the RKT and cumbia artist will be monitored via an electronic ankle bracelet. Upon leaving the penal institution, Alvarenga expressed confidence in his defense attorney and the legal process. His partner, Jessica Belén, shared footage of his reunion with his son.
