Cambodia advances economic growth through trade and investment initiatives

Cambodia is advancing several strategic economic initiatives aimed at boosting competitiveness and bilateral trade. The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) have signed an €8 million agreement for the second phase of the Improved Competitiveness of National Enterprises project (ICONE II). Spanning 2026 to 2030, this phase focuses on enhancing productivity, nurturing medium and large enterprises, and fostering entrepreneurship to strengthen Cambodia’s global competitive edge.

In a separate effort to improve the investment climate, the CDC and the European Chamber of Commerce in Cambodia held a business briefing to streamline regulatory procedures. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol emphasized the government's commitment to administrative reforms intended to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and facilitate smoother operations for foreign investors.

Additionally, Cambodia and Vietnam are working toward a $20 billion bilateral trade target. During the Cambodia-Vietnam Business Forum 2026, chaired by Prime Minister Hun Manet and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung, leaders discussed transforming infrastructure into synchronized industrial corridors. Key sectors for cooperation include agro-industry, logistics, clean energy, and tourism, supported by new agreements between major entities such as Vietnam Airlines, Cambodia Airport Investment Co., and various telecommunications and agricultural groups.
