Cambodia to build Mekong River bridge connecting Phnom Penh and Kandal

Cambodia is set to begin construction of a new bridge across the Mekong River early next year. The project, described by Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea as a visionary initiative by Prime Minister Hun Manet, aims to connect Norea Island City in Phnom Penh's Chbar Ampov district with Mekong Quay City in Kandal Province.

Minister Peng Ponea presided over the signing of construction and supervision contracts on October 16. The bridge is intended to enhance connectivity between the eastern and western regions of Phnom Penh, reduce traffic congestion in the capital, and stimulate economic growth for residents in both Phnom Penh and Kandal Province. Specific details regarding the bridge's dimensions and total construction costs have not yet been released.
