Cambodian infrastructure development projects

Overview

Cambodia has initiated plans for a major bridge construction project across the Mekong River. The project, described by Minister of Public Works and Transport Peng Ponea as a “visionary initiative” by Prime Minister Hun Manet, aims to connect Norea Island City in Phnom Penh with Mekong Quay City in Kandal Province.

Following the signing of construction and supervision contracts in mid-October, the project is expected to begin construction in early 2027. The bridge is intended to reduce traffic congestion in the capital and stimulate economic growth. Alongside this project, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport has launched technical training courses on traffic management equipment to improve national road safety and technical standards.
