Cambridge Professor Jason Arday Faces Renewed Plagiarism and Personal Claim Scrutiny

Sociology professor Jason Arday, appointed as Cambridge University's youngest Black professor in 2023, is under renewed scrutiny after plagiarism allegations resurfaced. Analysts identified more than 100 passages in his doctoral thesis that closely match a 2009 dissertation by Paula Zwozdiak‑Myers, and earlier investigations by Liverpool John Moores University and academic journals found no evidence of misconduct.

Arday has also been questioned about personal claims, including a story that a severed pig’s head was sent to his parents’ home in south London and that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days, the last nine with a broken leg. The Metropolitan Police said no investigation took place and could find no record of officers visiting the butcher named by Arday. Cambridge University maintains that previous reviews cleared him of academic wrongdoing, while supporters such as the Good Law Project argue the controversy is part of a politically and racially motivated campaign.
