Gillot SAS recalls Camembert cheese due to E. coli contamination

Health authorities in several European countries have issued urgent warnings and product recalls for specific batches of Camembert cheese due to contamination with Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC).

The affected products are manufactured by the French company Gillot SAS. The recall specifically targets 250g packages of Camembert Bertrand Crémier au lait cru and Camembert au lait cru (brand Le Petit Cru), both sharing batch number 232511. The expiration dates for these products are listed as October 17, 2026, and October 21, 2026.

STEC infection can cause severe gastrointestinal issues, including intense abdominal cramps, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea. While symptoms may be mild in healthy individuals, there is a high risk of serious illness, such as colitis, in vulnerable groups including infants, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems. Consumers are advised not to consume the products if they match the specified batch and expiration details.
