Cameroon advances digital connectivity and electric mobility

Cameroon is seeing developments in digital infrastructure and sustainable transport. Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) is expanding its fibre-optic network to improve internet connectivity for educational institutions. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between students in remote areas and digital learning resources, such as online courses and digital libraries, to promote digital inclusion.

In the mobility sector, Spiro is accelerating the deployment of electric motorcycles and battery-swapping infrastructure in Cameroon. Following the launch of an assembly unit in Douala, the company has produced over 1,000 electric motorcycles. The shift toward electric mobility is being positioned as an economic opportunity to utilize Cameroon's hydroelectric and solar potential, reducing reliance on expensive imported fossil fuels and lowering operating costs for professional drivers.
