Cameroon pursues energy diversification and industrial infrastructure growth
Cameroon is navigating economic shifts and infrastructure developments aimed at stabilizing its energy and industrial sectors. In 2025, the economy maintained a 3.5% growth rate, driven by a 3.8% rise in non-oil activities and a 4.3% increase in the services sector, despite a 6.6% contraction in oil and gas production.
To address energy supply challenges, there is a push for diversification. Entrepreneur Yaya Ousman Tchounkeu Batchamen of BTE Engineering Group advocates for integrating solar photovoltaics with existing hydroelectricity to create a more resilient, decentralized energy system.
Significant infrastructure investments are also underway to support industrial hubs. A 35 billion FCFA project is being implemented to secure electricity and water for the Kribi Industrial-Port Complex. This includes a 225 kV transformer station and a 42 km high-voltage line designed to meet current and future industrial energy demands.
