Cameroon energy infrastructure development

Overview

Cameroon is implementing various infrastructure projects to enhance energy security and supply stability. In Douala, the Société camerounaise des dépôts pétroliers (SCDP) has modernized oil and gas storage and transport capabilities. This includes commissioning a new 1,000-tonne liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage sphere at the Bonabéri site, increasing total LPG capacity by 40%, and implementing a new four-kilometer pipeline connecting the Autonomous Port of Douala to the Bessengué oil depot to increase monthly reception capacity.

Simultaneously, efforts are underway to address electricity supply challenges. In the Kribi industrial-port complex, a 35 billion FCFA project is developing a 225 kV transformer station and a 42 km high-voltage line to meet current and future power demands. To support these developments, there are calls for energy diversification, including the integration of solar photovoltaics and decentralized solutions alongside existing hydroelectric resources.
