Cameroon customs seize tons of contraband and hazardous goods

Cameroon customs authorities have intensified efforts against illicit trade through several major operations, including the HALCOMI IV and CRIPHARM initiatives. Between September 30 and October 2, 2026, officials conducted multiple seizures across various regions.

In the North region, authorities intercepted nearly five tonnes of dangerous goods. This included 2,450 kg of cyanide near the Benue River in Garoua, a toxic chemical often used by illegal miners, and 2,200 kg of prohibited sachet whisky in Djalingo. Officials noted that the cyanide seizure prevented potential contamination of local water supplies and aquatic life.

In the South region, teams intercepted approximately 2,486 kg of undocumented frozen meat products, including poultry and pork, which had not undergone required veterinary inspections. In the East, 827 mobile phones were seized, while the CRIPHARM operation in the South-West intercepted a massive shipment of illicit pharmaceutical products.
