West and Central African customs enforcement operations
Overview
Customs authorities in West and Central Africa have conducted significant operations to intercept contraband and hazardous goods.
In late September 2026, Senegalese customs officials in the Matam region seized a shipment of illicit medicines and veterinary products valued at approximately 18.6 million CFA francs. The seizure, targeting a convoy intended for a local market, was part of a strategy to increase surveillance in interior regions.
By early October 2026, Cameroon intensified its efforts through initiatives such as HALCOMI IV and CRIPHARM. These operations resulted in the seizure of nearly five tonnes of dangerous goods in the North region, including 2,450 kg of cyanide and 2,200 kg of prohibited whisky. Additional seizures in Cameroon included undocumented frozen meat in the South, mobile phones in the East, and illicit pharmaceutical products in the South-West.
