Cameroon expands oil and gas storage capacity in Douala

Cameroon is accelerating the modernization of its oil and gas storage and transport infrastructure to reduce dependence on imports and secure national energy supplies. In Douala, the Société camerounaise des dépôts pétroliers (SCDP) has commissioned three major pieces of equipment.

Key developments include a new 1,000-tonne liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage sphere at the Bonabéri site, which increases the site's total LPG capacity by 40% from 2,500 to 3,500 tonnes. Plans are in place to build two additional spheres to eventually reach a capacity of 5,500 tonnes.

Additionally, a new four-kilometer pipeline connecting the Autonomous Port of Douala to the Bessengué oil depot has been implemented. This infrastructure is expected to increase monthly reception capacity from 210,000 m³ to nearly 345,000 m³, reducing transfer times and vessel immobilization costs. The SCDP has also inaugurated a new headquarters building to support its operational modernization.
