Cameroon and US identify $7 billion in investment opportunities

During the first US-Cameroon Bilateral Economic and Commercial Dialogue held in Yaoundé on August 27-28, officials identified nearly $7 billion in potential investment, trade, and expansion opportunities. These opportunities span several key sectors, including critical minerals, energy, digital infrastructure, forestry, and logistics.

Major identified projects include a $3.5 billion hydropower dam (Grand Ewong) and a $2 billion airport project in Douala. In the mining sector, companies such as Tronox and Lion Rock Minerals are advancing a $500 million rutile and rare-earth project in the Centre region. Other interests include nickel-manganese development and infrastructure training.

While the identified $7 billion represents significant interest from American private groups, it does not constitute committed capital. The realization of these projects depends on technical studies, financing, and Cameroon’s ability to improve its business climate and regulatory environment. Cameroon, the largest economy in the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC), is seeking to leverage its natural resources and strategic position to drive growth.
