Cameroon postpones 2026 GCE exams after exam paper leaks

Cameroon’s Ministry of Secondary Education delayed the remaining 2026 General Certificate of Education (GCE) examinations after confidential exam papers were leaked online. The exams originally slated for 8‑18 June were rescheduled for 22 June‑2 July to preserve the integrity of the testing process.

The leak, circulated on social media and instant‑messaging platforms, exposed the growing use of digital networks by organized cheating groups. In response, the ministry highlighted past disciplinary actions: in 2025, 255 individuals – 208 students and 47 teachers – were sanctioned for exam irregularities, including possession of unauthorized materials and involvement in digital fraud. Officials warned that the incident underscores persistent internal weaknesses in exam paper handling and the need for stronger security measures beyond punitive actions.
