Cameroon promotes women's rights and rural empowerment

In Yaoundé, Cameroon, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF) and UNICEF organized a sports march on October 10, 2026, to mark the 15th International Day of the Girl. Approximately 500 participants, including high-ranking officials and diplomats, marched through the capital to advocate for girls' rights and demand an end to forced and early child marriage.

Separately, MINPROFF is preparing for the 31st World Rural Women's Day on October 15, 2026. Minister Marie Thérèse Abena Ondoa highlighted the need to transform rural female farmers into entrepreneurs. Noting that women represent over 70% of the agricultural workforce and are vital to food security, the Ministry aims to address challenges such as limited access to land, financing, and modern equipment, as well as the impacts of climate change and regional security crises.
