International women's rights and empowerment initiatives

Overview

In mid-October 2026, various nations and organizations observed International Day of the Girl and International Rural Women's Day, focusing on the rights and economic roles of women.

In Cameroon, officials and UNICEF organized a march in Yaoundé to advocate for girls' rights and the prevention of forced child marriage. Additionally, the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and the Family emphasized the need to transition rural female farmers into entrepreneurs to bolster food security and address barriers such as limited access to land and financing.

In Haiti and Côte d'Ivoire, celebrations centered on increasing the political and economic participation of rural women. In Haiti, the Provisional Electoral Council and the Ministry for Women's Affairs highlighted the necessity of rural women's presence in public administration and national decision-making. In Côte d'Ivoire, NGOs focused on the agricultural contributions of rural women while deploying nutrition projects to support local development and rights.
