Camilo Pérez wins Colorado Party primary for Asunción mayoral race

Sports administrator Camilo Pérez was selected by Paraguay's governing Colorado Party (ANR) as its candidate for the mayoralty of Asunción. In the June 7 primary, Pérez secured 61.45% of the vote with 98.42% of polling stations tabulated, representing more than 80,300 votes, and will face opposition nominee Soledad Núñez in the municipal election scheduled for October 4.

The primary was described as largely peaceful, though isolated incidents occurred, including a clash in Quyquyhó and the detention of influencer Francesco Canatta on suspicion of attempted vote buying. Electoral authorities reported ten to twelve arrests for electoral offenses and deployed over 100 prosecutors to monitor the process.

Raúl Latorre, head of the Honor Colorado campaign team and president of the Chamber of Deputies, praised Pérez’s appeal, citing his leadership of the Olympic Committee and the ODESUR Games as factors that “conquered the people.”
