Camino de Brochero declared Argentina's Intangible Cultural Heritage

The Argentine Chamber of Deputies has passed a law declaring the ‘Camino de Brochero’ as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Argentina. The law was approved with 207 affirmative votes, following previous Senate approval.

The approximately 240-kilometer route is linked to the life and religious work of San José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero, known as the ‘Cura Gaucho’. The pilgrimage connects various locations, including Villa Santa Rosa de Río Primero, the city of Córdoba, and Villa Cura Brochero, tracing the spiritual legacy of the first Argentine saint born and deceased in the country.

The designation aims to preserve and promote the religious, cultural, and historical traditions, community practices, and expressions of faith passed down through generations. Local authorities, including the Córdoba Tourism Agency, noted that this recognition is expected to boost religious and cultural tourism in the region, supporting local economies. The 13th annual pilgrimage along the route is scheduled for Saturday, September 12.
