The Argentine Chamber of Deputies has passed legislation declaring the Camino de Brochero as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Argentina. The law received 207 affirmative votes following prior approval by the Senate.
The approximately 240-kilometer route honors the life and religious work of San José Gabriel del Rosario Brochero, known as the ‘Cura Gaucho’. The path connects Villa Santa Rosa de Río Primero, the city of Córdoba, and Villa Cura Brochero.
The designation is intended to preserve religious, cultural, and historical traditions while promoting tourism to support local economies. To facilitate this, the legislation introduces a pilgrim passport similar to the model used for the Camino de Santiago in Spain, allowing travelers to record progress and receive accreditation upon completion of the circuit. The 13th annual pilgrimage is scheduled for September 12.
