Campania commuters protest Circumvesuviana cuts, call for more trains

Commuters of the Circumvesuviana network in the Naples area sent an open letter to regional operator EAV, describing a "grande moria di treni" – a severe shortage of trains accompanied by breakdowns, delays and service cancellations. The letter, signed by representatives of the Pendolari Vesuviani committees, also condemns a three‑year‑old "experiment" that further reduced services in several time slots.

The groups note that, despite the economic crisis, passengers continue to pay monthly and annual subscriptions while the service deteriorates and ridership falls. They demand a new timetable from September with more trips on all lines and the elimination of the experimental scheme, arguing that a better redistribution of rolling stock would increase availability without waste. The letter ends with a note of irony: "Nessun treno è stato maltrattato per la scrittura di questa lettera, perché sono fermi in deposito."
