Campania Councilor challenges SS 163 Amalfi Coast tunnel project

Roberto Celano, a regional councilor for Forza Italia, has called for a ‘Question Time’ session at the Campania Regional Council on October 7 regarding the proposed tunnel variant for the SS 163 ‘Amalfitana’ road between Maiori and Minori. The project, identified as ANAS NA286, has faced scrutiny over its environmental, geological, and economic impacts on the Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Celano highlighted local opposition, specifically noting that the Maiori City Council passed a resolution on July 30 opposing the variant. He urged the regional administration to clarify its stance on the project and suggested exploring alternative mobility solutions. These alternatives include slope stabilization, improved pedestrian access, road adjustments, and reviving previous projects such as the Minori-Ravello cable car to ensure more sustainable and less impactful regional mobility.
