Campania Governor Roberto Fico Bans Outdoor Work During Heatwave

On 17 June 2026 the President of the Campania region, Roberto Fico, signed Ordinance No. 1 aimed at protecting workers from extreme summer temperatures. The measure comes into force on 21 June and stays in effect until 31 August.

The ordinance forbids agricultural, construction and similar outdoor activities between 12:30 and 16:00 in any area where the INAIL Worklimate system indicates a “high” risk level for intense physical work under the sun. Essential services and urgent operations required to restore public utilities are exempted. Public‑service concessionaires must adopt organisational measures to guarantee minimum levels of essential services. The president said, “With this ordinance we intervene to concretely protect agricultural and construction workers and anyone professionally exposed to prolonged sun and high temperatures.”
